Our Orthodontists

We are in the fortunate position of having two orthodontist at the practice. Mr Heyluer previously owned the practice, and has been with Chipping Manor, in its present form, since it began in 2001. He treats or refers children for NHS treatment if they meet the index of treatment need (IOTN) threshold for NHS treatment.

Mr Day is a Consultant Orthodontist who works with us on a Thursday evening. He carries out all of the private orthodontic work here both on adults and children. Again, if children fall within the IOTN threshold, he can either see them here on a private basis, or refer them for NHS treatment elsewhere.

What is Orthodontic treatment?

We offer orthodontic treatment to adults and children. Orthodontic treatment aims to correct the position of the teeth, and occasionally the jaws with the intention of improving the function and aesthetics of the teeth and face. This may have an important role in improving the psychological well being of a patient.

What does it involve?

The most important thing is to have a full examination. This will usually involve looking at your teeth, taking x-rays and making plaster models of your teeth.

Your orthodontist will then discuss what treatment is possible.

Orthodontic treatment usually involves the wearing of braces (removable or fixed), occasionally following the extraction of teeth. The most common type of brace is fixed to the teeth, usually on the front though occasionally on the tongue side. These are sometimes known as 'Train-tracks'. Commonly the braces are grey and made of metal, however, there are now tooth coloured braces available which are less noticeable and better aesthetics.
